Things to do in San Diego
Cardiff State Beach
One mile south of Cardiff on Old Highway 101. This gently sloping beach offers swimming, surfing, beach combing and picnicking. For those who love to camp, there are grounds for tent camping. Must be at least 18 years of age to camp or be accompanied by an adult. .
Oceanside Pier
Perhaps Oceanside's most memorable landmark, the pier was first built in the late 1890's by Melchoir Pieper using lumber that had been salvaged from the wharf at Wisconsin Street after it had been destroyed in a storm. Since then the pier has been through five iterations, most recently having been rebuilt in 1987. Today the Oceanside pier is a popular attraction for both locals and visitors, offering fishing, a great view of the Pacific ocean, and a little Oceanside history.
Pacific Beach
South of Crystal Pier, Pacific Beach is a local hot spot. Start by and spend the day on the beautiful sandy beach then enjoy dancing the night away at a local club. Don’t forget to indulge in a great dinner at one of the many local restaurants that offer a variety of foods from Italian cuisine to fresh sushi.
Carlsbad State Beach
A 4-mile family-friendly beach with easy water access. Also known as Tamarack Beach.
South Carlsbad State Beach
Beach-goers choose this beach for its swimming, surfing, skin diving, fishing and picnicking. The bluff-top 222-site campground is located at 7201 Carlsbad Blvd. and offers AT&T Wi-Fi.
Agua Hedionda Lagoon
Agua Hedionda Lagoon is a saltwater wetland and watershed and offers year-round recreational and commercial use. The lagoon includes mud flats, salt and freshwater marsh, and deep water and is actually comprised of three lagoons: a 66-acre outer lagoon, a 27-acre middle lagoon and 293-acre inner lagoon.
Hidden Canyon Trails
This short trails connects the dog park with Hidden Canyon Community Park, which features two playgrounds, several picnic areas and large expanses of lawn.
Carlsbad Skateboard Park
This 15,000 square foot boarder’s paradise featuring bowls, concrete, a street course and a beginners’ area. Helmet, elbow pads and kneepads required.
La Jolla Cove - La Jolla By The Sea
Located at 1100 Coast Boulevard, La Jolla Cove is one of the most photographed beaches in all of Southern California. This intimate alcove is tucked away behind sandstone cliffs. Just a short walk from this stretch of sand, you’ll find the beautiful boutiques, award winning restaurants and stunning art galleries that make La Jolla a sought after destination unlike any other.
La Jolla Shores
Located at 8200 Camino del Oro, La Jolla Shores offers some of the most gentle waves in San Diego. Many novice SCUBA classes are held in the waters of this mile-ling stretch of sand. Only half a mile a way you’ll find the Birh Aquarium where the whole family can learn about the exciting local marine life.
Childrens Pool La Jolla
The Children's Pool also known as the Casa, is a small beach partially protected by a seawall. The original intention was to create a fully protected swimming area, but sand has filled in much of the area inside the wall. This is a very picturesque beach with a panoramic view. During much of the year, seals and sea lions are present on or near the beach and a reserve for these marine mammals, called Seal Rock, is just offshore.
Torrey Pines
Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve is located within San Diego city limits and yet remains one of the wildest stretches of land on our Southern California coast! Because of the efforts and foresight of the people in this area, 2000 acres of land are as they were before San Diego was developed -with the chaparral plant community, the rare and elegant Torrey pine trees, miles of unspoiled beaches, and a lagoon that is vital to migrating seabirds. There are 8 miles of trails, a visitor center, and guided nature walks on weekends and holidays.
Cabrillo National Monument
Climbing out of his boat and onto shore in 1542, Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo stepped into history as the first European to set foot on what is now the West Coast of the United States.
